What type of business entity structure do you recommend for a person who is starting a business? For example, let's say I wanted to establish an entity to act as a Parent Company of 4-5 other business affiliates for marketing purposes. The Parent Company wouldn't own anything, it would just be made up of an association of other businesses. Should the Parent/Marketing Company be a partnership or would we need to incorporate? What if we decided we wanted to buy property together?
Your choice of business entity will depend, in part, on the type and nature of business you plan to engage in. For example, certain businesses that require licenses cannot operate as LLC's.
If you want to avoid cascading liability your holding corporation approach is more or less sound, but all corporations need to have assets. It seems that at this stage, you proposed plan is overly complex and burdensome, whatever your business venture may be.
Best, perhaps, to focus on one type of business at a time, and work from there. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
