Bakersfield Business Connection

Hi,

My name is Dan Pacheco, and I'm the founder of a Bakersfield-based web site called Printcasting, which you can check out at http://www.printcasting.com. We were recently featured in The New York Times, and I think they did a good job of describing what we do. So I'll just quote them. You can read their story here.

From the NYTimes story: Printcasting "... lets readers pick which articles they want in their magazine and then print it themselves. The company has a Web site on which anyone can put together a magazine featuring their own blog posts or articles and items from blogs and newspapers that have registered with the site. Advertisers can place ads in the publications. Readers can print a copy of the magazine or view it online or on a mobile device.""

You can see examples of niche magazines people have created in Bakersfield here:

So in addition to introducing myself, I also wanted to point out an exciting new advertising solution that's built into Printcasting. Within a few minutes, you can place an ad in hundreds of niche magazines people are creating in Bakersfield, and a few other cities. To sew how it works, click the red "Place your Ad" button on the Printcasting home page, or go here: http://www.printcasting.com/advertiser/create.

You can also browse through the Printcasting directory and find Printcasts you want to advertise in, and click the "Place an Ad" button in the sidebar. That way you don't have to spend a lot of time digging through the directory after creating your ad.

It's a new service, so the ads are pretty cheap -- starting at only $10. Publishers can mark up their rates if they think they're worth it, but most of them haven't done that yet.

Oh, you're also free to create your own Printcasts for your business. They're ad supported today, but we are thinking of creating an ad-free version which people pay for in lieu of accepting advertising.

One cool thing to know about the ad revenue in Printcasting is that is directly benefits the "citizen" publishers and content providers -- often bloggers or community organizations. We send 60% of every ad dollar directly to the publishers, and then send another 30% to content providers whose content is used in ad-supported publications. So every time you place an ad, you're also helping fund news and information in your local community.

I welcome all of you to give Printcasting a try -- either by placing an ad, or by making a publication. If you have feedback feel free to contact me here, or at dan@printcasting.com.
